I have a 1995 automatic 4 cyl. Geo Metro. Can I put a transmission from a 3cyl. automatic Geo Metro in it? Same year.

yep, the transmissions are all the same. use the atcu control box from the 4 cylinder car.

I have done it, im pretty sure the gear ratio is numerically higher on the 3cyl trans, so your cruise rpm will go up a bit. Even if this is the case, I don't think it's a big deal.
If I remember correctly the end cap part of the transmission is different for 3&4 4cyl motors, where the mount under the battery is located. Think I switched the two what I swapped. If you take a look at both trannies in the car I believe you will see the difference.
Don't be scared to do it up, switching that piece isn't terribly hard, unbolt and seal with silicone if you can't get a gasket, which I suspect might be the case.

1.0L auto trans have 4.40 ring and pinion.
1.3L auto trans have 4.10 or 3.65 ring and pinion.
I have swapped out a 1.0L trans for a 1.3L trans and gained 5 mpg highway.
