All those positive comments is worth a lot, I bow for them :)

The positive thing at this moment is that I just made a call, to continue with the registration process. With that said, everything with the car works at it should (i hope).

Unfortunately I need to wait about a month, but I'll make an update as soon as possible.

Todays status is: Fun as hell!!

Last weekend I took the car out for some final testing at the nearest race track. No problem at all with full throttle lap after lap. But as I've mentioned earlier, the car seems to oversteer a lot. We made some adjustments, and the handling was geting better all the time.

At the end of the day I was pretty saticfied, but I still know that there are some things that could be made to improve handling.

I had a camera mounted, but the battery seemed to be empty :(

There is an event coming up in just two weeks, and I will charge all batteries to share.. :)

rear spring rate change? those are huge meats for the car to be ass happy with..maybe drop tire pressure..lots of little things...does it feel balanced and driveable in oversteer? is it oversteering on decel/ braking or just under gas? im curious. thats all. good work runbag..gotta road trip in that thing and really enjoy it! i look forward to vids very much so. thanks for shareing.

A good day, once again!

Today I've just made the second (and most critical) step through the registration process. I was nervous as hell, but it actually ended up much better than I expected.

The only reflection was about the springs, they were to hard to use at the street he said. That's fun, I've built a whole new vehicle, and it all falls down at the springs. :)

So I'll just order a softer setup to make him happy.

9 days left until more track fun!

Hi Runbag,

I watched all the way!
Is it only me think you were overtaking everyone and no one over took you?
How fast were you going in straight line? It seems you were doing over 200Km(125mph).
I see there were some tail wiggles in tight bends but apart from those you car looks easy to drive.
When does your boost kick in 4k rpm or so?

Looks AMZING, I'm sure many of drivers thought how come your car is so fast  ?

Cheers
Atchi

Yes I was surprised that I actually was able to go as fast as I did. Two weeks ago, the oversteering was much worse, and 3-4 times that day I couldn't hold it from spinning around. This day, everything was much better, and I could really feel when I was about to loose contact in the rear.

As you said, I belive that I just passed 200 Km/h. I prefered to not look at the speedometer :)

The car is actually very easy to drive, and beeing able to do a lot of adjustments later on will only make the big grin on my face to grow wider :)

The boost comes around 3500, and since the torque only differs 12 Nm between 5500 - 8300, I should be able to use it anywhere at the track.

Another good thing is that I was using regular street tires, and boost pressure 1.2 bar. So there is another 0,55 bar to help me keep up with the faster cars in the straights.

Thanks :)

Ok I have to ask and I'm sure others have asked but what all is involved in making it rear wheel drive and what does it cost? I would love to have a rear wheel drive swift GTi.

Thanks,
Paul

In short, I just simply cut away the floor, and constructed a new chassie with seamless tubing. I used front and rear suspension from BMW E30, so the chassie was built to make them fit. Transmission is also from BMW, and one stock Swift transmission was cut apart to be welded together with the new bellhousing. Further on, I had to make sure that I could fit everything else that is needed (steering, fuel tank, pedal assembly, seats, etc).

In the end the only parts that is left from the old car: Body - Engine - Steering.

I believe that you could always make a Swift RWD in an much easier way, but since the idea is to make it street legal, I just simply had to do everything to withstand the regulations.

Actually I have no idea how much money I've put in this project. But since I decided to only use premium parts, it has cost a lot more than the car itself is worth. I belive that it ends in about 24-32K USD.

I might seem to be pretty slow to make progress, but still I aim to deliver.

The most critic phase through the registration process is done. Now there should only be about 2-3 weeks left until I would be able to ask for the wery last step to reach my goal...

2012 will be my year :)

Finaly, after almost eight years, it have come to an end.

The car is now fully street legal, and trust me, I feel pretty comfortable right now. Just to know that when the summer arrives, I can take her out and go wherever I want. That's awesome!!!!

=)
