These numbers are set in increments of 250 RPMs starting at 2000 RPMs and ending at 9000 (for those people who are running higher than the stock rev limit). This set is for the stock bore and stroke g10 (74.0mm bore, 77.0mm stroke). The first column is your RPMs, the second column is what your NON TURBO G10 will breath (in CFM's), the third column is what your TURBO G10 will breath (again, in CFM's), and the last column is a translation of the turbo's CFM's into lb/min. NOW, using this link: http://not2fast.com/gasflow/velocity.shtml you will be able to figure up what size piping you will need for you power needs. Using 15psi at 6500RPM's, with an air inlet temp of 85 degrees, mean velocity is 251.8 ft/sec with 1.5" piping coming off the turbo all the way to the TB. You want to have as close as possible to critical velocity (300 ft/sec) in your car's specific power band peak to optimize the flow of you IC piping. Typically you want a throttle body that is 1/2" larger than your piping as they do no flow like normal piping due to the TB plate. Any value past critical velocity and psig begins to increase exponetially. Play with the numbers and find out what works best for your setup.

To plug these numbers into a specific turbo's compressor map, take the boost pressure number (third column at the top, also in perenthesis after the psi) plug that into the y axis, and take the lb/min rate based on what RPM you want to look at and plug that into the x axis .

I will create a series of calculations for an overbored G10 if you provide me with a link to the piston and it's bore so I have sound proof of the actual bore. To be honest, increasing the bore will not yeild very much gain in air flow. i'v proven it with my stickied threads on the forum I frequent for my supra.

I will complete a thread like this for the g13 shortly once I research the bore and stroke of the engine and have spare time. All calculations were done using Microsoft Excel with the correct formulas inputted in. These calculations were based on using an efficience (Ev) of 80%.

hello everyone im doing a g10 turbo convertion im using the turbo from a volvo 5cyl and the pistons and rods from the g13 anybody know what im gona need to do to the TBI set up so i dont lean out im looking to run 8psi for now message me for any ideas thanks....

the tbi setup is way not the good injection method.

the factory turbo3 ran a multiport injection system for a reason.

about the only option for fueling improvement will be a clt sensor mod that tricks the engine management into thinking that it's perpetually winter. doing that usually makes the ecu run in constant open loop mode and because of that, the o2 sensor never really aids in fine control of the injector pulse width.

the map sensor runs out of headroom around 6 psi and explodes around 10 psi. when i first started trying to boost an n/a g10 it was a lot like whacking my head against a wall. it felt a lot better after i rethought the whole deal.

on the bottom end, you mention using rods from a g13. specifically that would be a g13b dohc 16 valve (twincam) engine. then, what pistons would you use? the n/a g10 pistons don't work with the twincam/ turbo3 rods. the twincam pistons make the g10's base compression too high to be suitable for a boosted application. you would have to run 102 octane racing fuel to stand a chance in hell of avoiding destructive engine knock.

just making you put on your thinking cap before you commit.

I realize this is an old thread more recently brought up, but how was the volume metric efficiency calculated, or was 80% just an educated guess. Last time I crunched numbers like these I always inputted a safer lower number 70%.

If I saw this and had not read anything on air flow I would not understand that:

Airflow rate = cid(cubic inch displacement) x rpm x 0.5(four stroke cycle engine fill its cylinders only on one-half the revolutions) x Ev(volume-metric efficiency) divided by 1728 (12x12x12x12, converts cubic inches to cubic feet).

Then multiple this by your pressure ratio. In this example the pressure ratios selections are given for you. You can adjust these numbers using the above formula for your desired pressure ratio.

For turbo compressor match up you want to look through the entire rpm range to see where the efficiency lies at your desired pressure ratio. You don't need more than five data points to get a reasonable approximation where your compressor lies.


For turbo pipe sizing you want to take our highest rpm or highest number of cfm's than use a turbulence formula based on pressure resistance inside a tube. I have calculated cfm's up to 400 and never saw a reason to go above 2" piping unless you can't find a way to put the pipping in without using a lot of 90 degree bends. The larger pipping will reduce the pressure resistance across these bends. Anything using smaller than a 2" piping the turbo lag created by the additional volume of piping is something less than 1/10 of a second. I would recommend 2" to make pipe purchasing with fitting and bypass or blow off valves a lot easier.

Remember these are approximations that are used to match up a turbo to your engine's cfm. Your final cfm output is ultimately also determined by a lot of other variables not to say the least the turbocharger you select.

1.3 liters = 1298 cc = 79.33 cid

79.33 x 8000rpm x 0.5 x 0.80 volume-metric efficiency/ 1728 =146.91
(Close enough to redline)
Pressure ratio = 14.7 + boost/14.7

5psi = 1.34
6psi= 1.41
7psi = 1.48
8psi = 1.54
9psi = 1.61
10psi = 1.68

Example:
146.91 x 1.68 = 246.81cfm at 10 psi or roughly 7 cubic meters/min
