anyone know of a retractable power antenna that fits these cars?

i had a power antenna in my garage for years that i finally installed on my red vert last year. if i'm not mistaken it was a replacement for a 1993 saab 9000 cse.

you have to use the type that has the antenna drive separated from the mast by a flexible shaft. the ones that have the drive fixed to the mast don't have enough clearance to fit between the inner and outer fenders.




as far as i know, i'm the only person to ever do this mod.

I looked on a couple websites for that Saab power antenna, but I'm not seeing the detached mast--could yours be from another application?

If you look thru the build thread for T3's red restomod vert there is another pic that shows the inside of the engine bay so you can see the end of the antenna motor.

i couldn't tell you. it has been many years since i was active in the saab scene. i won the antenna as a door prize at a national saab owner's convention in 1998.

With all due respect , particularly for T3's nice installation,
you actually don't need an antenna in the fender.
A gentleman I know just installed a flexible wire into the windscreen frame.
It really works good.

wouldn't that leave an empty hole in the fender?

the vert fender can be replaced directly with a 3 door fender that doesn't have the hole.

i prefer a whip antenna outside of the car for superior reception.

not everyone uses terrestrial broadcast radio in their car these days. there's satellite radio, mp3s, cds, and entertainment from cell phones like i heart radio and pandora. i personally like national public radio broadcast in hd radio format from a local public radio station.

i store my vert every winter and i used to have to remove the whip to get the car cover on. now i just turn off the key and the antenna retracts. i don't have to worry about some ass clown bending the antenna while my car is parked now.

Yep,
Some idiot did bend the antenna on mine, but it happened before I was the owner.
Gosh I can't believe that I had it for 10 years...
And yes, the antenna does get in the way of the car cover...I unscrew it when I store Vanilla Latte for the winter.
It sleeps in the garage under my shop and it's always protected with the cover. Wood dust does migrate.

Just found a nice universal power antenna at [url]vintagecarradio.com[/url]. It works from any vehicles from 1963-1989.
