I need help. I recently aquired an 89 suzuki swift gti dohc with an auto tranny. I have been doing a 5 speed swap and have most the parts and steps finished I have been searching this issue and can't find much on the topic. I have the 5 speed in and all bolted up. Since the input if the 5 speed moved a couple inches to the passenger side i cannot find cv axles that are the correct lengths that have the 25 spline outers for the hubs. I have a 95 metro base model and a 91 base model 3 cyl for parts i am using a 1.0l tranny for the time being cause theyre cheap. Someone please point me in the right direction on what i should look for or part numbers for cv axles that will fit. I am not using the center shaft with bearing if i dont have to.

If you are using a 4 cylinder engine then throw all the 3 cyl stuff away.

You need to use the intermediate shaft, you will also need equal length driveshafts from a 4 cyl 5spd model, you may be able to use the auto shafts but they are slightly longer than the 5spd shafts.

I found correct length cvs that have 23 splines so maybe just swap hubs/ knuckles out. The 3 cyl parts thati am using as of now i.e tranny, pedal asy, cable, shifter, radiator and mounts are all just fine and work in this car all i need is cvs i cant use my center shaft because the bearing/mounts holes are a couple inches towoards the passenger side

You Need a 4cyl 4spd intermediate shaft. Then either get a new set of gt manual axles, or a set of non gt axles(will have the smaller outer cv joints), and switch the hubs/spindles to non gt.

I do have a few. You can get them from any 4cyl 5spd equipped metro/swift/firefly etc from 89-01 so they aren't terribly rare once you know they are all the same.

I ended up finding a 94 gt sedan 5 speed at a wrecking yard so i pulled the cvs and since the hubs are 23 spline i took those too. It may be there for awhile i may take the transmission too

Yes, no sedans were ever Gt's, if it has a 1.6 engine then the intermediate shaft may not bolt in, the plate that bolts to the engine is different.
If it has a cable shifter then it has the stronger gearbox, if its a rod type gear change then the box is the same as normal boxes just with a different bell housing to suit the taller block.

I got everything in and ready to go. Only problem is the gti rotors are a hair too tall and lock when the caliper gets bolted on. I got the front hubs from the 94 sedan to match the cv axles. Everyrhing is done and complete i just need suggestions on this hub deal

Will a ga spindle AND bearing fit into the gti hub. This is what i want to do because im pretty sure the caliper mounts are closer to the center on the ga hub compared to the gti hub

Sedan hubs should be the same as gti hubs, yes the caliper mounting bolts are slightly further out on the gti than the sohc hubs, you can use gti rotors on sohc hubs if you turn down the rotor a couple of mm's, the outer cvs are similar so you can use 4 cyl sohc shafts in gti hubs and vice versa.

Ive been driving this thing for a month now and its a fun little car really snapy. 1st gear wont rev high even on dry asphalt without breaking loose. Anyways i had surging rpms when i hit 2k rmp then would surge between 1500 and 2k didnt know what it was my battery terminal came loose and it died i plugged it back in and it runs perfect only problem that came up at the same time was now my idle is at 1500 warm and i cant figure it out. I unplegged the tps and it didnt do a damn this just thre the cel but everything is the same. I want to know if the tps is the issure because the semsor cost 380 bucks at all my local auto parts store and even online.

A surging idle issue on the GTI is usually from the wax pellet in the cold air valve no longer closing after the engine is warm. That triggers a revving cycle up and down as the fuel cut kicks in and out. Most folks in warmer climates just remove the cold air valve and then add a blanking plate.

Have a look at t3ragtop's picture of the blanking plate in this thread:

with the blanking plate my twincam starts and goes directly to its base idle of 850 rpm.

see the black plastic cap in the foreground? that blocks the vacuum inlet for the j tube from the idle valve.

i left the idle solenoid and all the vacuum system pipes and hoses in place. surging totally disappeared.

Make sure you plug back in the tps sensor otherwise your running on limp mode. If it is not surging up and down idle and it is just idling slightly high test out your idle control valve on the front of the throttle body. If that is working fine, and you have no problems with cold air bypass valve or the MAF just try turning down idle screw. I only had to adjust mine less than 1/2 a turn to bring the idle down to 800 rpms. If you are surging I would try throwing on a new gasket on the cold air bypass valve before blanking off or replacing.

I was having the high idle and serious surging problem on my non turboed GT and after reading some old posts in Redline I made a new gasket for the cold start valve without the hole in it and bolted it back together. It run s great now and all the problems are gone.
