that is crazy talk
that like saying.... It's ok to reuse your stretch type head bolt more then once
.
you make a good point...... Being the age of our cars that idler pulley should be changed at least once and inspected every T-belt change
you should also change the oil on a regular bases.
But a lot of people driving are cars don't think long term like you and I
.
You know these car were the bottom of the food chain (cheep transpo) .
A Between 'r
A throw away as you will car
not looked upon as long term Vehicles when they were first produced
We've all seen the video were after a few year's people would cut the tops off and let the "Kid's" drive them around the yard Like a Go-kart
Our cars GOT "No Respect"
Hell the Third gen's a lot not all had piston to rod bearing clearances within the first 20,000 miles
parts were expensive back in the day
I'm talking $200 for an Alternator back in the early 90's for a car that was 5-8 yrs old.?
.
.
Sometimes in extreme cases timing belt replacement is not needed
.

.
.
.
.
Getting back to topic.......
I believe this method would work .
and yes
Changing the belt is not that big of a job. yet still alot of post in the past inquiring about Timing marks and
T-Belt alignment
I would be lieing to you if I told you that every time I change the timing belt I change the Idler pulley assmbly
It just doesn't happen every time..... but I always chnge my oil religiously
and always use a synthetic blend in my turbo cars
also Marvel Mystery oil in every combustion type engine I owne
That's a fact
No bull
You can take that to the bank
