But driving a swift GT on the road to Hana in Maui would be a dream.... All the rental companies had for a sports car was a mustang.

For the record, I was on Oahu from 2006 to 2014 and kept my eye out for a GT for sale. Only saw one advertised online from a dealer. I hightailed it over there to buy it and was told they decided not to sell it for liability reasons... Whatever that means.. I didn't recall seeing any while i was there.

There's not much in the way of fun roads on Oahu--the best one is military only (Kole Kole pass) and has been shut down since 2011 with no plans to reopen. We hope to tear up the SCCA autocross though

Actually, I there were a bunch of fun roads out there.. Lots of car meets and cruises too. Just need to make sure you don't get mixed up with the knuckleheads. I would have loved to have my swift out there and blown peoples minds.

Well I dropped the Swift off with the shippers yesterday, so in a month or so there will be at least one GT on Oahu.

I'll try to steer clear of the knuckleheads--presumably these same are responsible for Hawaii's draconian safety inspections?

I do know of a few fun twisties (Tantalus-Round Top Dr. in Honolulu, Auloa Rd. in Maunawili) but it looks like there's a lot of traffic/pedestrians/cops etc... more scenic than "technical". I'm sure I'll have fun, but I will miss Malibu

h2, the pali pass from honolulu to the north shore.

i lived there for 3 years in the mid 70s while i was in the navy. my ships kept coming back from wespac cruises and going into dry dock at pearl harbor so i rented a house in the mountains and went to college at the university of hawaii. i owned the brown lotus europa that was featured in the tv show magnum p.i. for the first couple of years and after that a 70 1/2 datsun 240z that i body kitted as a road racer.

the pali pass is a nice, fast shot up and down with curves and tunnels. when i was there i caught the first run of 'star wars' at the drive in theater on the north slope. the screen was surrounded by the sky's real star field and it was really trippy.
