So, since july I've been working on an 89 GTi I acquired and I thought it's time to share some info.
Long story short; I bought 2 gti's, a drag one (with cage and all) and a donor car.
Drag GTI had no engine, trans or anything. It was basicly a shell. FYI it ran a best time of 12.7 with turbo. The donor car had a bone stock engine with no trans. I did have a spare trans so that was no problem.
Anyway, over the last year or two I have been buying some (performance) parts and I'm gonna be using them all on this project.
After we (me and my mechanic) started working on the drag gti, we noticed the shell was pretty much rotten. The donor car was in much better shape. So I decided to use donor car as the project car. We had to take out the already build engine out of the drag and put it in the donor car. Along with ecu harness and suspension and a lot of other bits and pieces.
Even though the donor car was in better shape, a lot of work did go into the shell.
But finally on oktober 3 the engine started for the first time. Today the engine ran again and kept idling.
Some info on the engine:
JE 75mm 11:1 pistons.
Head was shaved (not much) and ported.
3tech cams (222/365).
Cultus intake manifold.
Genie headers.
Suzukird underdrive crank pulley
Sandros Chip (210/340)
Aluminum flywheel
Altezza 1g-fe tb (55mm)
Vitara SGP headgasket.
I still have to install an apexi S-afc and an AEM wideband air/fuel ratio gauge.
Still waiting for a monster tach with shiftlight and oil pressure, water temperature and oil temperature gauges.
Under the dash there's pretty much nothing. lol. I took everything out.
Suspension in the front are KYB gr2 with cut springs (1.25) and rear are 1.5.
Also there is an upper strut brace and also a lower one.
Rims are the suzuki 7 spokes ones (not installed on the car yet).
On the body I have the fender flares which are copies of the suzuki ones. A front bumper lip (strider) and a double gti wing. Two wings were bolted to each other and then fibered to make it look as one wing. It's longer than one wing.
Dashboard and indoor panels were sprayed bumper black.

Sorry, car is still very dirty. It still has to be sanded down / prepped to be sprayed. I think I'm going to spray it the same blue as my Altezza.
We still have to figure out a few things like if the TPS is actually doing anything. We used the altezza tps but it's a 3 wire tps. The GTI is a 4 wire tps. So we left one of the wires unplugged. I think it was the white one.
Engine does run but i think it should work better with the GTi tps...
At the end of the month I'm going with a 50mm tb. Maybe it will run better. But damn it does rev FAST to 8600rpm.
