I thought this would be a good place to post the differences of the various oil pumps. I've seen lots of it posted around here, but finding any real compilation has been avoiding me. I've grouped the oil pumps to their respective engine series. I've also arranged them from smallest to largest in pump capability, but I lack the photo's to show the pump size differences.

G10/G13 SOHC 6V and 8V

G16/G13 SOHC 16V - Crank Position Sensor Equipped Models Specifically, atleast according to the aftermarket pump listings, appear to be the same pump as the G16 without the crank sensor provisions.

I got 18MPG in a 3cyl with a 5 speed manual 4dr, '93 Metro!

So the G10/G13 pumps are all the same? I'm thinking I might want more low RPM oil flow in my XFi engine, since I'll be lugging the hell out of it. The G16 pump bolts right up and moves more oil?

There are some small differences(the bypass valve is machined differently/built better, etc), at idle these pumps move lots. At 2000 RPM even with my G10T pump being all scored to crap it was pushing 50psi until I really heated up the oil.

On the other hand, yes the G16 pump will bolt up.

Edit: I should get a picture of the G10T pump up. I'll also post up what kind of pressures I'm getting when I put that G16 pump on my G10.

Edit 2: THE G16 oil pump gasket will NOT work on the G10, they widened out the gasket just enough that it will leave just a pin's width unsealed.

The G16 also has a bigger diameter pickup pipe.

Oh, and if you can afford it, do buy the OEM/Aisin pump as the casting and machining is miles ahead of what you get with the 'Made in Taiwan' pumps. The front of the pump doesn't actually line up to front of the block, it's off by a mm or two at the back corner, where the oil pan meets.

So the pickup tube needs to be replaced too? Does the tube from the trucks fit, or does it have to be from a car? I think the only car with a G16 in the US is the rare Esteem. And are all the G16 oil pumps the same? If the aftermarket ones are junk, I might look for a low mileage junkyard pump.

Anybody know the standard oil pressure of the G10 at low speeds? The manuals only give the spec of something like 50-60 PSI at 3000 RPM. I want that pressure at 1000 RPM.

well, keep in mind when my car is at temp, my cylinder head temp is 225F or so.

all at 1000
castro GTX 5w30 = 8psi
moblie 1, 0w-40 = 9psi
mbile 5000 20w50 = 13 psi

cheap 10w40 = 9psi

then again i have not messed with or even removed my oil pump.

bypass is at 42 psi. on the 20w50 i peak at 50 psi.

(i drive hours at a time, so hot oil pressure is more important to me than city driving oil pressure. tho i am switching back to 0w40. do they make 0w50?)

I think I have found the reason for the low oil pressure at idle. When they drilled the crankshaft to get oil from the mains to the rods, they left the hole open on the end. This means the crankshaft is dumping oil into the engine. I am going to build restrictors for the open holes. Instead of 0.200" holes pissing oil everywhere, I am going to restrict it to about 0.030" to see what happens. The final oil pressure will be 50 to 60 psi when I tune the pressure regulator.

Turns out this crank never had the oil galley plugs put in it. How it ever stayed alive is beyond me.
I crimped steel ball bearings to plug the oil galley holes in the crankshaft. And this crank is in my GT engine.
Crank was turned 0.010" undersize and new bearings installed. It has 8 psi with 0.001" oil clearance and
5-30W moble-1 oil.
Tell me about 0-40 W moble-1 oil. I have never used it but it sounds intriguing.
