I need a 2001 Suzuki Swift 5 spd manual transmission. Think it is the 3.79 ratio. What years are compatible?

Pretty much any Metro/Swift transmission will bolt in there and work. There are four different gear ratios and you may or may not be happy with that change. All GEN3 (95-01) four cylinders got the identical transmission to the one you have. GEN2 (89-94) XFI's got the same final drive ratio, but first gear was a little bit different.

I have put quite a few of the older trans into the newer ones, 98-01 4cyls seemed to have more bearing failures than the older ones for whatever reason. You do have 3.79 ratio, older 4cyls have 4.10, I've hoped to get a performance gain from the gear ratio change but to be honest I never noticed much in either fuel mileage or performance, it feels about the same despite the ratio change. So if you land up with a 3cyl trans you should be happy I'd say with the result
