Ok so I have a stock GTi gearbox laying around and when I see through the hole where the driveshafts go into, I see 1 bar going across. This is an open diff. (Stock)

Now, the currently installed gearbox in my turboed GTi I remember seeing through the hole and seeing 2 bars (or 2 pins) across each other. Like a "cross" if you know what I mean. The guy I bought it from told me it was a GTi gearbox he brought back from the Netherlands with lsd installed in it. I'm certain it is a gti box as it has the extra hole for the brace to the block. But what about the 2 bars crossing each other?

Hi,

It could be mk1 diff in mk2 gearbox.
You can lift both front wheels and try to turn 1 wheel. If it was open diff, the other wheel should turn opposite way... I think.

If you are lucky enough to have a LSD installed, it should turn same direction after while. I think how it is anyway.
I have to fit drive shafts into my car to prove this as I have a Suzuki sports LSD in mine.

Thanks. I'll try that.
Meanwhile I did a hard launch on concrete. It did leave a pair of tire marks / burnout lines on the concrete of equal lenght.
I think it must have an lsd installed.
