Hello all,
How can I identify a Geo Metro five speed from a GTI five speed?
I'm in need of a GTI 5 speed but I have no idea how to tell the difference between the geo and GTI.
I have been told the input shafts are larger diameter on the GTI than the Geo. I'm hoping there's another way to tell, maybe an identification number or something.

In a US spec gt/gti, the only difference is the diff is physically slightly larger and only comes in a 4.1 final drive, swift/geos come with 3.52, 3.79, 4.1 and 4.389 final drive ratios.
Same actual gear ratios, same bearings, same syncros, same hubs etc etc, externally the gt box is the one with an extra lug on the housing for a brace that bolts to the engine, good luck trying to fine a gt transmission is reasonable working order, pretty much all thrashed from the high revs and old age.

Any Gti transmission in 2016 is indeed needed for a rebuild. My 89 called it quit's back in 1994. and the owner parked it until i showed up 10 tears latter

Just so you can actually see the differential differences I'm posting this up.
