Doesn’t seem to be many boosted board members with Gti’s/Gt’s, especially from the US or Canada, was wondering how many there really is out there !?

Would be nice if everyone with boost could let us know a few bits of info about their cars, I am especially interested to find out how the T28’s compare to T25’s or equivalent. I Think this has potential to be a good thread as we can see what works and what doesn’t so please post away !!

On Boost = By 2000rpm but as the boost delivery is linear it’s very low at that RPM

Here's my Turbine Tech setup...

Don’t want this one to turn into a list of modifications as I am sure most people with boost could fill a couple of sides of A4

As for making it go faster a trip to the rolling road to get the car mapped or at least the timing adjusted will make a huge difference. I am amazed that you have not been to get the car set up properly the difference will be more than worth the money !

A Ron is unit of measurement, so 98ron in the UK would be 98ron in the US, just like 1Mph is 1Mph no matter where about’s on the planet you happen to be !?

Same everywhere in the world all boosted swifts are aftermarket conversions there are probably only 5 Gti’s in the UK with boost. This is why i am currious to compare results !

No problem, you can summarise as much as you want.

As for tuning on a rolling road, there would be no real improvement as my car is at the moment by cause my car is street tuned to the exact a/f ratio I want and is monitored live constantly.
As for timing I am awaiting a MSD BTM, as my base timing is retarded to 2 degrees, so with out risking detenation there would be no increase in performance without risk of damage. When the MSD BTM comes I am installing a knock link which then I can advance timing back to stock and use the BTM to retard per PSI and monitor knock.
Street tuning is much more 'real world' than on a dyno (without slagging a dyno off, because yes they are good tuning tools). Some good tuners always recommend after tuning on a dyno to go out and tune on the road, because the dyno can produce different amounts of load on the engine which spools the turbo up different. And yes I will eventually go to a dyno when it's worth my while.

As for the RON measurement, USA do not use RON and their fuel quality is also different, so when someone from USA quotes a octane it is different to ours. e.g. 98RON = 95PON

Engine = Stock + 1999 16VSOHC pistons / lower compression
Boost = 7-14 Psi
WHP = 125- >??Unknown Gtech run coming - when its running%#@
Fuel = 91 octane
Charger = Garrett BBGT/T25
On Boost = starts at about 2000/ 5 PSI about at 3000rpm
Manifold = Cast AVO/ SSGTI not equal - but long runners
Anything else = Apex springs and 25 mm swaybars

I was getting 45-47 MPG on high last trip 70mph

My homemade setup.

EMS = Apex-i SAFC
Engine = Block bored to 75mm to accept D16Z6 Honda forged pistons, block guard, ARP head studs. O-ringed head
Injectors = Eclipse's 360 cc
Boost = 10 PSI daily, 15 PSI on some ocassions...
WHP = Around 160 @ 10PSI with G-Tech
Fuel = 87 (R+M)/2 @ 10PSI, 91@ over 12PSI
Charger = T3 50 Trim A/R .42
On Boost = Start boosting at 2100, full boost by 4K RPM's
Manifold = RZM manifold wich is like the Turbine Tech (the one with the waste gate flange on runner #1)
Anything else = Ford 5.0L fuel pump, modified fuel rail, MSD BTM6

Ok ok, first a disclaimer... although I have a turbo swift... it' rarely runs.
(do a search on my posts, you'll see )
It's haunted...
so maybe you should avoid this set-up... I dunno

WHP = this thing hardly runs enough for me to drive it on the street, let alone to a dyno.... Good estimate would be in the 150-160 area (i HOPE)
Fuel = North American 92 Octane (i don't understand the whole RON/PON deal)
Charger = T20/25 hybrid
On Boost = Zero Comes up at about 2000rpm, hits peak at 3000rpm
Manifold = Turbine Tech Econoline special... 4 ports and a spot for a turbo at the bottom....simple.. elegant...works!
Intercooler (added this) = Turbine Tech Custom... fills the whole front mouth and then some.
Else = Walboro Pump, Fuel Pressure Regulator, Hydrolic lines for the remote oil filter that cause SOOO many problems. Ceramic Coated Piping.
and an Airfilter that lives in the Front wheel well!

The car is SUPER fun when it runs... pure driving bliss.
Unfortunetly this is rare... it's been very problematic, and i'm hoping to just make it more reliable then fast in the coming months/years.
It's had some close calls, and one blown turbo already.
But all in all i wouldn't trade it for the world.... which may explain the empty wallet i'm riding right now

As much as I want, 18psi is good.

No idea, but I'm probably making close to 200hp at the crank on full boost.

What octane fuel ?

Garrett VNT25 off a Shelby turbo IV
Using a wastegate off an Audi 5000 turbo to vent off in the top range when the vanes don't flow enough to keep the boost down.

Home made mild steel equal length header.

It's considerably faster than most off road trucks in Iceland. I haven't tested it on the track in current trim but it should do low to mid 15's on the 35" tall off road tires (which weigh 37kg each if I recall correctly). Definitely has the potential for 14's if put on some smaller tires. Has launch control and flat shift triggered by a clutch switch, makes the full throttle upshifts so much smoother. I only rev the engine to 6000rpm.
2.5" muffled exhaust, sounds quite good. Not too loud.

1994 GT 49,000km, turbo and pistons done at 45,00km. Original owner.

The cars timing figures will have to be sorted as the first figures that i have were low and now with this larger turbo i will have to advance the timing under no boost to aid with fuel economy and response.

i will probably start to pull timing at about 5psi probably 3/4 degree per pound.
I will also have to adjust the point at which the water injection comes in.

Well, this project is 9 months in the making, and i'm happy to say i've got it running very good. Bare with me, i'll try to cover the details of my setup.


What engine management are you running ? - For fuel control, I'm using Apexi S-AFC II. For timing, I'm using a Vortech (MSD) BTM. Retarding .4 deg/lb boost.
What’s done to your engine ? Vitara pistons, 3Tech reground cams 210(duration at .050")/.340" lift profile, p+p head w/ 3 angle valve job, 1pc ss exhaust valves, and all bottom end components + fly wheel are balanced/blueprinted. Udp from Adam, and filter relocation kit. Mitsu 3000GT VR4 Injectors (370cc), Turbinetech fuel rail, rrfpr 1:1, refilled motor mounts (Hard! ... Loud!). Added today was a 2.25 mandrel bent exhaust w/ magnaflow muffler.. one of the most beautiful exhaust tones i've ever heard.

93' Suzuki Swift Gt Turbo

Got you beat. I have the most homemade system here (Cost with the car + turbo, mods etc is $1400).

EMS = stock
Engine= stock
Injectors = stock
Boost = ?? (LOTS!)
WHP = ?? But I easily crushed a MR2 Turbo over and over...
Fuel = 94 Octane
Charger = CT10
On Boost = very very early, around 1500-1900 RPMs?
Manifold = homemade by nososwiftgti
Anything else = welded the wastegate shut (so LOTTA boost). Stripped!

Runs good, very strong, has a few oil leaks from oil inlet, no worries whatsoever.

I did it mainly because everyone said you need engine management, fuel mods, this that and the other. I've put about 5K of really ABUSIVE driving on it and it's still good. (I pulled the turbo for the winter to fix some of the little oil leaks etc).

When will it blow?????? I thought about selling it many times, but why? For the price it's easily the most fun car I have owned.

(My other car is a 94 RX7 TT)

Here's my low budged SJ4.13 4X4 turbo set-up except for the ECU system.

What engine management we are you running is the? Adaptronic 420

what’s done to your engine? We run a standard G13B engine, we used a bubble head gasket to lower the CR to 8,5:1. no mods what so even to the engine.

How much boost? 15psi@3600 until the red line

How many horses you got at the wheels? 152hpatw @ 12 SPI from 5100Rpm until the red line and 210Nm @ 4200Rpm.

What octane fuel? 98 Bp Ultimate or SHELL V power when we run @ 15 PSI and RON 95 @ 9 PSI boost for normal use.

Which turbo/supercharger you using? TD04H-13C-6CM2 360 CFM @ 15 PSI.

If Turbo what manifold are you using? Home made exhaust manifold with 3in dump pipe.

What RPM do you start pulling boost? 2000 RPM 3 PSI, full boost @ 3600.

And anything else you think might be worth sharing!? Closed loop boost control done by the Adaptronic 420 working with a BOSCH 3/2 boost control valve.

For the rest:
At the moment we are running 15 PSI for sprinting. For normal use we adjusted the Adaptronic waste gate controller to 9 PSI.
We had some problem with the clutch on the Dyno due to a coolant leak otherwise we were able to puss up the boost I bit further on the Dyno.

The total cost for this project for the turbo set-up was 400 Euro for the engine.
The Adaptronic 420 and all that goes with are like MAP and air temp sensor was about 900 Euros.

It really fun to drive and even with 9 PSI you can out run most GTI and Honda stuff.
Fastest G tech time @ 9 PSI was 6.2 seconds zero to 60 miles. Nod bad for a off road car.

more power is available but on the dyno the car stopped revving at 6500RPM so i have to check everthing then back to the rollers

Megasquirt tutorial --- http://caaarlo.50megs.com

Im trying to get somewhere on a turbo engine for my swift. I have a TDO4l as well as a turbo 323 cooler and some plastic b.o.v. Also some random pipes and clamps. I also have several engines at my disposal. The thing is I cant find a single damn one with good cam bearings. Anyways I have absolutely no idea where to start with engine management. Someone please enlighten me thx
