My chiltons doesn't say, and it's been many years since I had my Metro, but I'm guessing they shoot at the thrust side of the cylinder, aka intake side. The thrust side in any engine is the side that the piston pushes hardest against on the combustion downstroke. Wait for someone else who can verify before final assembly.
Edit, the bearing tangs should be on opposite sides, and IIRC, the caps are stamped with arrows indicating towards cyl 1.
