Up for sale is my Robin's Egg Blue 1990 Sprint Turbo. I am the car's second owner, and have had it for over fifteen years. The car is currently insured, runs and drives very well. Reason for selling it is I just don't drive it anymore (I have put it away at the end of each of the last five summers with a tank of gas or less run through it -- so 450km/year, give or take), and I no longer have the time to have a hobby like this car. I've taken it to a certain point, but she is ready for a new owner with new enthusiasm.

First, the bad...

[*]I know the car won't pass safety, because it needs rockers, either patched or replaced. That also suggests the floor will need attention, although I have not had it looked at.
[*]the thermostat switch that runs the fan needs replacing -- the rad fan doesn't come on

Now the good:
It has a current ("last two weeks" current!) e-Test, and, as always, it passed with flying colours. Wasn't even close.
It has lots of new parts in the last 2500km/five years:

[*]Rebuilt turbo from Turbine Tech (less than 1000km)
[*]2-inch stainless exhaust, stem to stern, with a proper, legal cat; and the precat was cleaned and replaced when I did the exhaust (less than 2000km)
[*]New brakes at all four corners (less than 2500km)
[*]New battery (two years)
[*]New rebuilt alternator (less than a month)
[*]New wheels and tires (less than 2500km)
[*]Suzuki Sport fiberglass side skirts (about six years old)
[*]Low miles on the car overall -- just shy of 190k
[*]Has not seen winter in about ten years
[*]Has not seen anything but premium unleaded since I bought it
[*]Has not seen anything but full synthetic since I bought it

As I said, the car runs and drives beautifully, although you have to run the heater fan to keep it cool while in transit. It is insured and currently on the road, and I am willing to deliver it to you within 50 km of Ottawa center -- after we have made a deal on it.

I'm looking for $1200CDN -- which comes up about $300 shy of what I spent on replacing the turbo alone, but I'm being realistic here, and want to see the car go to a good home. Photos are from beginning of last summer right after a fresh wash and wax. It's what I have available right now at the office, but I'll provide more on request.

It does look great after a fresh wax. Maybe I should wax it again before it goes.

UPDATE:

I just had a dig around underneath as best I could. The driver's side seems to be in decent shape, but I think the passenger side rocker has begun to separate from the floor at the front. That can't be good. But I felt like I needed to tell you what I know in the interests of full disclosure.

UPDATE: Someone (who has NOT seen the separation) tells me that likely that seam would have to be cut and welded anyway when the rocker is replaced. I'm sure there are body guys on here that can confirm or deny that, I'm just sharing what I hear.

Pretty bad rust... I would consider your car as part car now because there might be more rust somewhere...

My blue T3, a west coast one owner car junkyard rescue was worse. The rust prone areas are the same. Rockers and outboard 3 inches of floorpan. Yes a major repair.. But if you want a genuine turbo Sprint or Firefly.. this is what you have to deal with. 9 times out of 10.

Try to build your own for less..

That is a possibility, for sure. But I have priced the car at far less than its value parted out. Wheels and tires are worth $250 each (so let's say $125 each in current shape), the turbo is a fresh rebuild (cost me $1300), there's a brand new alternator ($250) and newish battery (+/- $30), the 2" stainless exhaust would have to bring at least $300, and the newish pre-cat cost me $125 used. The Suzuki Racing fiberglass body kit is worth a few hundred dollars as well.

Then there's the interior, which is in very nice shape, and the rest of the body, other than the floor.

So either way, I feel like the price is at a number where you could afford to build out the rockers and floor and drive it for years, or you could afford to part it out for a fair-sized profit. Obviously, as Owner #2, I'd love to see the car go to someone who's going to repair the floor and drive it, but once you own it, it's yours to do with as you see fit.

Meanwhile, the car is still plated, insured, and on the road.

Yes in the market... buyer doesn't care.

I am just saying that your T3 would be not drivable for a long term. I would recommend to the new owner to do major repair the rust first... or other method is swapping into the good shell like I did.

My GAT (MK3 T3) has two holes (unlike your, I will add picture in the future) but driver side is worst so I used the routine to find the good shell and swap it to be new GAT3.


If I live in your area, I would buy it.

It is a bit worse than I had anticipated, yes, but I priced it assuming it might be. I still feel like it's excellent value as a parts/donor car if you have a good shell to put it into. So I think we might be saying the same thing...



I'd still rather see it go to someone who will resurrect it -- but maybe transplanting into a fresh body IS a resurrection of sorts.
