I just picked up a convertible parts car with a much nicer top than mine. Is it feasable to remove the surrounding screws and then the entire frame with top on it? Then put the whole frame into my car and replace the surround screws? or am I going to deal with some tensions or other issues that would prevent this?

In a word, yes. With the top and frame loose at the front, put it half way down. This relieves tension on the fabric. Then undo all the screws from behind the doors and across the back. That will leave the main bolts located under the side covers where the seat belt retracts to. There is a regular bolt and one with a taper on each side. The tapered bolt only needs to be loosened and the frame will slide out from that bolt. It acts as support until you lift the top out and when you put the top in the other car.
