97 Geo Metro 1.3L 5 speed 3.79 ring and pinion, 185/50-15 tires @ 35psi suspension lowered one inch.
I have pulled my 97 SOHC 8 valve tbi engine and installed a 98 1.3L SOHC 16 valve port injection engine.
This also required replacing the wiring harness for the car and the fuel tank.
With brake in oil 10/30 Mobil-1 and a half a quart of ATF in the engine, and a new air filter, 87 octane fuel, I got 40 mpg
on a 200 mile highway trip.
I will tune the engine, adjust the valves, replace the timing belt if needed, check electronic engine controls and replace as needed after I have 500 miles on the oil. The ATF was added to clean out the sludge in this used engine.
What I need to do next is to change the exhaust system out from one inch to something larger. With two intake and exhaust valves this engine wants to breathe better. The one inch exhaust is to restrictive for this engine. I need to go to two inch at least.
I was getting 45 mpg on the old engine. Lets see if I can get this newer engine up there.

I just got back from a 3,400 mile trip out to California and back with my 97 Geo Metro 1.3L, 5 spd.
Best was 46.57 mpg at 65 mph going out.
Coming back with 5 transmissions and a GT short block, about 500 pounds in the back of the Geo
I only got 35 mpg. It didn't matter if I did 65 mph or 75 mph.

Not bad considering we were doing 80-85mph on the way back from Cali. I only got 30mpg on the way to Cali , didn't even bother calculating it on the way back and that was with 3.79 , can't wait to see that 4.39 , I bet I will get better mpg with it, despite higher rpm cruising.
3.79 is a total mismatch to twin cam but it works wonderfully in your car
