I tried to put an ECU out of a '93 XFI into a '94 Metro. After the swap the fuel pump wouldn't run and the spark (guessing on this since I sprayed starter fluid into the intake and it wouldn't start). I thought people had been swapping these with good results. Why would it not work on my car?

I'm guessing the ignition systems are different enough due to sensor pick ups that the '94 ecu is looking for a sensor not present on the '93s. Just a guess though, since I've only dealt with '92 and '93 Metros. Besides posting/searching on this forum, I'd pull out the repair manual & compare the electrical wiring diagrams between the 92 & 93 model years.

If you have a late model '94 with the black box on the throttle body, you are screwed, the '93 ECU just won't know what to make of the newer electronics. Late model '94 cars have the same electronics as the '95 cars. So you also have a 4 wire O2 sensor rather than the old 1 wire unit. Along with a host of other small differences.

I got 18MPG in a 3cyl with a 5 speed manual 4dr, '93 Metro!

Hmmm, very interesting. I did not know that...
