I just picked up a 1986 Chevy Sprint Plus. 3 cylinders. First thing I always do when I buy an older model vehicle is change the fluids. While changing the oil I found that the oil filter had been cross threaded and over tightened. It took some major effort to get it off but now there is no way to put another filter on without destroying the threads on the new filter and further damaging the threads on the engine. I figured maybe I could get a metric die and chase the threads but it might remove too much material and the filter would fit loosely and eventually work its way loose. I really don't want to be driving to work and the oil filter come loose in the middle of traffic. The
assurance chat thread size of the filter mounting pipe I believe is M18x1.5. My question, is there a way to remove and replace the oil filter mounting pipe? If not is there some sort of adapter plate that uses the three threaded bolt holes on the filter mount that I can install so I can put a filter and not be worried? Thanks in advance
