The valve springs are not the same. The only similarity this head has to the GT head is the bolt pattern and the fact that it has 16 valves. I would not run any more than about 9 - 9.5 mm lift, and be very careful who you get a cam from. This is a difficult application.

Well I m not aiming that high to tell you the truth. It would be killing to go that high on lift.
My aim is to make a powerband upt to 7500-8000rpm if possible on stock valve train and pistons and a camshaft able to support these numbers.... As for mapping I will go on Greddy bluemanage since the stock ECU on Balenos cannot be remapped!Compression aim is around 11-11.5:1!

Since all of the pics in this thread have been lost, I will try to update it with new ones in the next few weeks.

can you give a little more info on the needed adjustments for the throttle body? I've only had the swift a week or so and want to get a little more out of it

What you'll need to do is swap over the IAC valve from your TB to the one from the 1.6. They work the same, but the hose configuration is a little different. At the same time, swap over your TPS. You wouldn't want to change the TB then be chasing a bad TPS. Use the one you know works.

Just an FYI on the Esteem 45 mm TB.

There must be two styles. I was going through the ones I have yesterday and found that one is pretty much identical, and one has three differences that make it more difficult to use. The IAC is different in that it draws air from the intake tube instead of internally, the bell crank is stamped steel and different, and the drive for the TPS is completely different. I didn't think to look at the TPS to see if they're useable, but I will.

The stock 40 mm TB is capable of being bored to 50 mm. It looked close, and I didn't think it was possible, but it is - barely.

Note how thin the wall is. I have a 52 mm plate, and wanted to see if I could bore it to take that, but not without a bit of epoxy filling.
I'm anxious to try this out on my 2000 car.

So the results from my engine build....Compression per cylinder is 240psi,shaved head around 2/10,stock head gasket,Swift GTi standard pistons 74mm but willing to go oversize to 75-76, completely rebuilt head and bottom end with Baleno stock crankshaft and Swift GTi stock rods, all block bearings have been replaced with brand new ACL ones.
So the questions are... What should i do next? I 've been thinking about headers 4-2-1 with 45mm collector but i 've seen a lot of guys around using 4-1 instead. TB swap maybe or enlarge the current stock one? What figures to expect in total gains? The stock engine was dynoed 92fhp and 120Nm/ft before rebuilt with de-CAT exhaust, middle and rear boxes, Green cone type filter and GTi gearbox with Ignis Sport HT81S Organic EXEDY Clutch kit....
Also, any calculations on how much gains currently the engine might have since i haven't dynoed it yet.

I put a stock 98 SOHC 16 vallve engine in my 97 Geo Metro. This did require changing out the engine wiring harness and PCM.
Transmission has 3.79 ring and pinion, suspension dropped one inch, 15" aluminum wheels with Toyo 185/50-15" tires.
With the stock TB and the original 97 exhaust, I found the performance better then the 97 8 valve motor but not what I wanted.
I took the 98 TB and opened it up to 47 mm. This is the size that Suzuki offers it there race parts catalog. Car gets 45 mpg
at 65 mph.
Next on the list was to replace the exhaust from the stock manifold back. I went with 2.25" pipe and magnaflow CAT, resonator,
and muffler. In retrospect I think I should have gone with 2.0". I have a flange behind the CAT and in front of the resonator. I can use a smaller flange in between the front and rear as a restictor to help keep heat in the CAT. I have a 1.75" restrictor in there now. This new exhaust raised the power band about 1000 rpm. The engine pulls good over 3,000 rpm. At 65mph, 3000 rpm, car now gets 35 mpg. (not happy). But the good news, at 75 mph, 3500 rpm, the car gets 40 mpg. This is the speed I highway cruise at.
So next on my list will be one of Mikes cams, a new air intake system before the TB, and get rid of the stock exhaust manifold.
Maybe try 4.10 ring and pinion but not sure yet.
Just an FYI,,,
The car runs on 87 octane with great mpg. I tryed premium and midgrade premium and saw no improvement in mpg.
No EGR on these engines.
Distributorless ignition, so no way to adjust the timing. But the timing map they use seems to work well.
All and all I am happy with this conversion engine.

What throttle plate did you use for 47mm?

I have a sheet of half harden brass that I put in the mill and cut out a 47.2 mm round throttle plate. The throttle plates are not round so hand fitted the plate. Boring the throttle body was the easy part. Also had to open the slot in the throttle shaft, new seals, and new screws.
Now that I have a good sample of the 47mm throttle plate, I should pull it on my CNC to copy it. But I would need to know how many to make.

So the 1.6lt TB can be fitted on the 1.3 with no modifications out of reach?
@superf1y: can you help me a bit with your camshafts' profiles? i 'm desperate about it!
like i've mentioned on a previous post i have the GTi pistons in with a slightly shaved head. will your 340/200 profile work fine with the stock valvetrain and make power useable up to 7500 - 8000 rpms? :|

No. You're not going to get that kind of RPM with 200 degrees duration.

So any advice on what profile is best suitable for my current engine with GT pistons and stock valvetrain? The car is mostly daily used but weekend trackday fun too.

You 're saying there are two types of TBs, from what short of engines is each apart from being 1.6, engine's year etc if you remember

I'm glad you asked this here.

Take some pics of what your TB and exh. look like, then we can maybe see what will fit. Both of those can make a big difference in the power that these little motors make.

Do these engines take 55shot of NOS well? What would be the max NOS that can be used safely?

I don't think that would be a problem. Run the best fuel you can, and lot's of it, because the timing is not adjustable.

Would there be any reason to swap out the stock 16v injectors for larger units, or do they flow plenty for any NA build?

Also, do these heads benefit enough from porting and polishing to be worth the effort?

Thanks!

Kyle

Stock injectors are fine. If you know what you're doing, by all means, the head is good but a little cleanup never hurt. If you're not sure what do do, leave it alone.
