On mine (4cyl engine) the belt squeals a bit on startup (in the cold weather the battery must require more charge off the alternator).

I'd like to tighten it up a bit - but when I look under the hood I see nothing that resembles a tension adjustment and/or release. The only possible place would seem to be to be on the alternator, but that's nearly invisible, wedged way in between the engine and the firewall.

How do I adjust the belt tension? Or must I take it to a specialist?

Have you adjusted an alternator belt tension before?

This is pretty much a standard setup - one bolt on top of the alternator running in a slot on a curved bracket. Essentially you release the bolt (and the two pivot bolts underneath) and then pry the alternator away from the engine and then tighten the bolts, starting with the top one in the slot.

Ok, that's what I wanted to know - where the securing device was located. Yes of course I've adjusted tension before, that's what puzzled me - I couldn't see where the tension device was located.

Now that's the reason I asked - I've yet to see a motor vehicle with a different alternator belt tension setup - if you've seen one, you've seen 'em all and this one is above the alternator where it's hard to miss.
