This is a guide I decided to write because there are misc. tips around the forum for removing decals but there are no images.

This is the before:


required tools: decal eraser wheel tool, fits into drill chuck, costs $13.88


heating device, propane torch, heatgun, hair dryer, etc
WD-40 or something to remove remaining residue, and a rag


Start by cleaning the area where you are about to remove the decals. This can be done with warm soapy water and a sponge. Wipe the water droplets off.

Use the torch to soften the glue on the vinyl. If you hold the torch 4" - 6" and move it quickly, it will work like a heatgun. Note that you can still remove the stickers without heating up the plastic, I found.

When the decals become warm by touching them with your fingers, run the rubber wheel over the decals, and they should rub off.

Spray WD-40 in a rag and then wipe the remaining glue off with the soaked part of the rag.
Use the sponge and soapy water to remove the rubber powder residue left by the rubber wheel, as it gets everywhere. You're done!

What about the foam tape left after I pulled the rubber strips off the sides of my Metro? Will the eraser take that stuff off?

I got the pinstripes off with just a hairdryer. The temp was very critical. Too cool and they would just break, too warm and they would stretch. Get the temp right, and they peeled right off.

That giant eraser will eat any decal off, hot or cold.

It eats the decal before it the paint. It's just a matter of controlling how much heat the surface gets. I've pulled decals off with just a MAP gas torch before. When you're doing that, you really need to pay attention to how hot the paint gets.

it;s really good way to remove or peel off the decals or Waste Stickers from any surface without any scratch over it, i think there you may use additional thing is that naphtha to remove & easily can it have from some hardware shops . .

How about removing a decal to reuse? I want to pull a decal, get some paint work done, re-apply decal. Can it be done? Pontiac and Turbo Firefly decal, rear hatch. I have entertained using a hairdryer, slowly peel, just worried I'll mess it up. Note, I'm nowhere near a shop who coud replicate the decals.
