So I'm in the process of building a new engine, and I wanted to order some stuff at work today but couldn't because I forgot to bring my FSM and parts manual... so I figured as long as I'm doing this work, I should probably make it available to everyone. This info is for the DOHC, but I believe it's very likely the same for the SOHC G13's...

First of all, how to determine what main journal bearings were placed in your engine from the factory. The assembly line workers selected bearings based on the crank journal diameter and the bearing cradle diameter. These dimensions were measured earlier on in the process and measurement codes were stamped on the block and crank.

The block notation can be found on the oil pan mounting surface. It will be a series of letters, for example "BCBBB" (first letter for the bearing closest the the crank pulley). The crank notation can be found on the cylinder one counterweight, for example "23222" (again, the first number is for the bearing closest to the crank pulley). The measurments are as follows (but not really important):

A 49.000-49.006mm
B 49.006-49.012mm
C 49.012-49.018mm

1 44.994-45.000mm
2 44.988-44.994mm
3 44.982-44.988mm

The bearing used is then looked up in the following table:


*I should note that the "-" designation means no color is assigned (the bearings have paint markings on them to make it easier to identify them).

So, now the information for the bearings themselves:



And there you have it. When I rebuild, I tend to buy the original bearing size and the next thicker, just in case.... The last engine I built was dead on to the clearances I wanted (as checked with plastigage) with the original bearing sizes.

The info is the same for all g13's, and g10's.
Can you still get standard size bearings in the different sizes?
I've always used aftermarket bearings in mine, which I've only found in one standard size. Typically they have run about mid spec., but as long as they are close, they'll be fine. A little over, is still OK, but not under, especially if you're racing.

Last engine I built (2 years ago) everything was available. I'll be ordering more in the next day or so, and I'll let you know if there are any problems getting them.

oemsuzukiparts.com has listings for all 5 sizes for $12 a piece... Not a bad price considering rockauto.com sells a standard or oversize set for $70...

when selecting bearings for B3 C2 C3 , don't go with aftermarket, i have tried it and got some oil pressure problems with it...(30psi @ 4000rpm warm) now i'm rebuilding with oem yellow and blue mains bearings
