As some will know, I along with others used to lurk this site like it was FB. We slobbered all over the GTi's and GT's presented before us. We used to gather in parking lots and have lunch to reminisce about what we liked about our cars. Hell, we even used to brag about what hard to find part we came across (before the fleebay crowd came along).

Well, after losing my government job (17 years) I decided to try this: I was building commercial trucks for the dealerships to sell along with building trailers for a Ranch and Ag supplier. I soon realized that unless I broadened my reach I was going to go under as I didn't own my shop or my storage lot.

After struggling to maintain a business and dealing with physical injuries from Iraq I threw in the towel.
I now tinker with things like this.

Same kid (She's 15 months old now). New Gal since 2014. I'm no longer married. Got a divorce in 2011. Long story short, came back from Iraq and it all fell apart.

This is something I was asked to do alot. I re-directed those clients that wanted it to a Speed shop in the next city over. There they had a gentleman who welded cages for street cars. It only took them two years before they got their first liability lawsuit for their "roll" cages.

As for me, I'll never butcher a GTi / GT. Maybe a metro or swift GS/GA but never one of my hotrods.

One of these days this guy will do a concours (or as close as I can get) restoration on a GTi.

After all my ups and downs with injuries and battling my inner demons I have to say this statement is so true. Thanks Richard for the sage words. I too had my daughter last year at 48 yrs old.
