Hi,

Looking to buy a 1988 Forsa turbo. I figured I'd turn to the experts for info:

I'd like your opinions on what one in unmodified, perfect condition is worth.

I know these are rare, but if I could find one in extremely good condition, what can I expect to have to pay?

or put in another way, if one of you had such a car, how much would you be willing to sell it for?

The topic of how to value any Swift variant, focusing on Turbo and Twin Cams is based on what a buyer is looking for. I'll throw out my take on this question, keeping in mind that the car you are seeking probably has an extremely small market of potential buyers or sellers. I'm guessing you are interested in cars falling into category (2) or (3) below.

(1) Just want to buy a fun, driver-grade car, with a lot of miles/kms. on it, and just run it into the ground, while planning to spend little more money beyond basic maintenance? ($300 to $1000)

(2) Want a factory stock survivor, ranging from super low miles/kms. on it, that has had zero modifications, just to drive on sunny days? ($2,000 to $10,000+. Range spans from a car with 2,000 miles travelled per year or less, to a car with less than 200 miles on it discovered in unsold dealer stock, if such a car exists. This includes any JDM cars.)

(3) Want a project car is totally worn out, (including rust issues), (that could be considered a parts car by some) and that needs everything, in order for you to work on over the next x years until it becomes close to, if not perfect? Range: $100 (project start) to $3000 (at project end)

(4) Want to buy a super clean, but highly modified quasi-race car that needs nothing, but an appreciative buyer? ($2000 + sum of recent new parts value invested X 25% + the previous owner's labor cost valued at well basically $0/hour)

Here is another thing to consider . Any used car (and that includes Chrysler K cars ) registered and insured with working AC is worth $1500-2000 in Arizona . Would I sell mine for less then that , not in a million years .........

$5K for a collector, non-daily driver.

Vehicles in the $2K range probably have their value in how inexpensive they are to maintain and operate. These end up getting used to go back and forth to work.

Sadly, few end up in garages, however that is slowly changing.

You'd have to catch my Wife in a really good mood to drive off with our White Turbo Sprint for $5K.

If it has working A/C and Factory Cruise Control, that would increase the price.

So there does seems to be a world of difference between real world prices vs what that type of car can be purchased for.

As a Buyer, I can see that I'm at a disadvantage since there are very few out there in very good stock condition. The ones that are out there are loved by their owners, adding some emotional $$$ to the bottom line.

If I where a seller, I would then be at a disadvantage trying to find that special buyer willing to spend what I think my car is worth.

I do have one in sight. However I'm not sure if the owner and myself will be able to come to an agreement (he had no initial intentions of selling it but I seem to have perhaps made him think about it). Will keep you posted on the final result.

Sometimes this can save you money, if the seller is less concerned about money, and more concerned about finding an appreciative new owner for their pride and joy. Applies to cars in any condition, since these cars possess so much character, regardless of condition. Experience suggests that those with (ahem) multiple cars are more likely to put weight on the buyer's intentions.

Eg. I'm looking to remove the floor pan sheetmetal before sending it to the scrapper (gasp!) vs. I've been looking for a car like this for x years and this one's a keeper. (ahh!)

So even though you think it's worth about 5k, chances are you still wouldn't sell it for 5k.

The market is lower in the northern country's, for the simple fact that most people love Mad Max road hugging vehicles. Unless if you find a buyer in California. The value goes up in Central and South America. exclude Mexico they are part of North America And love V8's.

Feel free to post pictures of the title car and we'll 'benchmark it' for you.

All "mods" are reversible.

One question: did aĺl forsa turbo come with a rear hatch wing? This one has none.

Waiting for your comments,... Let me know what you think it's worth. (assuming what you see is what you get) I was told the floors are all original (no patch job). There is rust (below the paint) arount the windshield and on the rear quarters) That seems to be the only "issue" with the car.

It's not original (was repainted in 1999) and the engine was restored. Brakes are new. A few mods but they are all reversible.

You could get 5k for that forsa. But you will have to find the buyer. And I am pretty sure he will have to be looking for a car like yours.
