As a precaution, the timing belt is changed every year. |

I don't do it every year because in total the car does less than 200 km. |

I have heard of seam welding for racing cars...is this the same? I would like to do this with my celica alltrac. Any pics of the welds? Cheers! |

I cleaned everything the I welded 2cm with a 2 cm gap. From what i've heard continous welds aren't good for the car . |

Exactly, if you weld everything without leaving gaps you could develop cracks around the weld since it won't have any room to expand or contract or flex. |

Some onboard action..just the practice run. I managed a new record time for engines under 1600cmc of 1:12.738 and finished 9th overall. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeRAyE-XPyo

Thanks. I took me 4 years of trial and error to get it that way. Running 38 max degrees advance with a comp ratio of 111 or 12:1 running 9.3 mm cams and 222 degrees. Carbs are dellorto dhla 40 with 34 chokes . Fuel was Rompetrol alto 101 available for the public , probably 98+ COR . I will now have to save money for an LSD, I don't know if you noticed on the vid the inside wheel that slips and slips although the slicks were warmed up and had a good grip around corners with part throttle applied. What kind of lsd do you think i need , clutch type or modena type? I don;t think I could run with a welded diff on that kind of track without power steering. |

How much rpm can the gti distributor take? Mine got the protective cover off ,feel in the distributor cap and broke it. I was doing 9 or 10k on a burnout to warm up the slicks and it just died on me. |

This year ended rather badly , I missed 3rd and shifted to 1st while doing 9000 rpm in 2nd. Still no1 in the 1.4 class but the damage to the engine kinda put me down. This winter will be all about rebuilding the engine . P.S : The oil and aluminum fragments came through the carburetor trumpet....odd thing. The engine block is intact and there is no obvious engine knock.

Unfortunately the engine gave it's best, nothing seems salvageable , I will have to check the crank for straightness and see if i can recover the arp rod bolts. The only things that are ok are the cams possibly the lifters and springs ,3 pistons and rods , possibly the crank ,all bearings since the wasn't knocking water pump oil pump . I think the cause of the failure was a valve that had a flaw or something .My next engine will probably have ss valves if they aren't too heavy. Here are the photos . I'll Be Back. Yep..that sucks. What are your thought in terms of ss valves. Do you think i should be running them? Can I run them with stock springs and lifters? Could this have happed only because i over revved it? Did you or have you heard any other guy running a g13b about breaking valves when hitting close to 9000 rpm ? |

Do you have a rev limiter? cutting the spark on over rev would help somewhat. I'm probably not the most qualified person to ask but I would say the over rev is what killed it, there other guys running well past 9000rpm but I think you need solid lifters at that rpm. |

ding dong! that looks like the piston crown reached critical mass and the whole cylinder went up in a nuclear explosion. gets my vote for the "carnage of the year" award. |

Yes , valuable lesson learned . No, i don't have a limiter , just a shiftlight. So, are SS valves a must for high rpm or was this just an accident? Enjoy the vids http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeNpqaMU6no&feature=plcp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAp6RoLOP8Q |

Just make sure you carry some spare driveshafts in your tool box when using that 4 puck clutch |
