yup the "Ol man" is right.!
Been there.... The front key way shears (not all the way)will give that sould

Drain the oil ... look for mental if you've got a rod a knockin you'll see signs
And on that note Pull it He say's rebuild.?

But i wouldn't trust it.!

But this fell into my lap (free): 1999 Suzuki Esteem, 1.6L, 5spd 145k on the odometer. It'll be moving to my house this weekend or next depending on whether I can get a towtruck out there.

hmmm...

Turbine Tech has turbo for it... But dealer support is gone. potential for CVT failure + lack of parts in NA is down right scary. At best I get 13 L/100 km (22mpg) combined city hwy, mostly city.

Speaking from experience with a 2010.

Don't pay too much for one...

I'm sure your referencing the vehicle Scott posted but I'm sorry that in your area they aren't supporting your vehicle. My buddy Jeff owns a dealership and he's under obligation until 2021 to provide service support for Suzuki vehicles. In fact, he does it so well that Suzuki (Japan) toured his dealership to see his service department. I guess it had to do with his feedback that he gets from his loyal customers. He's moved on to Mitsubishi but nonetheless, he remains committed to providing his obligatory support.

I did find that they can get me parts through Brea from Australia for the Esteem (Baleno).

I wonder what happens to suzuki dealer service/parts operations after 2021? Will OEM parts still be available?

Is Suzuki management touring in order to see if they should resume auto sales, or do they care only because they want to serve marine and motorcycle customers?

Suzuki has an arrangement for the remaining dealerships where they will receive a final payment from Suzuki. I do know that some dealerships are selling off all warehoused parts to wholesalers. OEM parts will be available outside of the US. Most of the older Suzuki's are still being manufactured abroad.

That would be nice. I think they would be better off if they owned and operated a manufacturing facility in the US or restart CAMI as a Suzuki only facility.

The esteem so wants a twin cam swap after seeing the photograph of the engine bay. But it may not be worth losing the torque from the 1.6l..

The local Suzuki turn Mitsubishi dealer still service the cars but anytime you require a very specific part the cost is not encouraging you to keep it... The cvt tranny is a very expensive item to repair and replace based on our office's experience with the Nissan Cube with a full network of dealers. That for the Suzuki will be unobtainium outside warranty.

Suzuki motorcycles, off road and marine are still going strong here. But it is very doubtful the cars will return to Canada, I'll say ever. They are known for little k cars around the world and not the full size tanks North Americans demand. Us swift people are a rare breed.

Or the 2.0 DOHC setup w/turbo. I will be climbing under it to see the extent of bracing that I will be building for this. I've always wanted to do a wagon.

The entire center console from the dash back is a bolt in for the Swift. I just found a source for a center armrest?
