My stereo is a JVC touchscreen headunit, front Pioneer components (run off the headunit), a pair of vibe 3 way 475w rear speakers run off a directed 750w amp, and 2 Audiobahn 12" subs in a ported box running off an 800w kenwood amp.

not what's going in the firefly, it's what's going in the grand prix, but I got an audison vrx 1.500EX (discontinued special edition with walnut center strip chrome heat sink, gold contacts and accents, and all available upgrades from audison), two sets of Diamond audio D971 7" components, and I plan on an alpine IVA-W505 and multimedia center, and would love a pair of butler tubes (4x75) to amp my diamonds. I have an alpine type X 12, but I plan on selling it and buying a new pair of type X's. can't mix one new with one old. subs may change, not sure if there's any other make I would go with for subs on that system. would like to not have 12 different brands for my system when it's done, but we'll see. Might even drop the idea on those butlers for some audisons to keep it simple.

sorry for posting like 3 replies here but I actually have that same deck in my camry (daily driver). is yours a total Piece too? lol. it plays decent, sounds ok for a JVC, but it's really really quirky with that touch screen. mine was given to me, so I don't complain too much.

I really like my music but I am not picky too much on how I get it as long as its SD card :-)

I found an awesome little stereo at walmart for $40. no CD just FM and SD slot (usb slot too) besides the blue backlight being 200x too bright (gonna fix that) its perfect tiny and does precisely what I need.

I replaced the dead front speakers with walmart special 4" speakers. I got those nice 6x9's they sell at walmart with the carbon cones and aluminum chassis. ok they suck but are better than stock and shoved them in the stock position in the back (they JUST FIT)

That just gets me sound. Now for the GOOD sound. I installed digital 5.1 surround sound in my geo. namely with Logitech X-540's (simply amazing sounding set of speakers)

175watt inverter to the unit. The sub unit goes in the boot. under my hatch cover plastics are the rear channels up front on the kick panels are the front channels and my favorite just under the cup holder on the back of the console plastic as if they designed it for this I installed the center channel.

Pure audio bliss. enough bass that you can feel it in your chest but not enough to rattle anything in the car. Perfect.

Still need some tweaking. its too rear heavy. but when I shift audio front it cuts out the line level output to the 5.1's for some reason. SO when time permits I am going to flip the wiring so front is back and back is front. so when I shift "back" (not losing the 5.1's) I will actually be shifting forward and get exactly what I want.

Well before I wrote off my previous GTi (Which happened to be my dad's car... ) I had a pretty killer setup IMHO, All for under $1000 (Deck, 4 Speakers, 500W Mono Block Sub, and 10" Sub

Deck: Sony GU-420R? I'm not quite sure if it's the right number but it was a 2007-2008 model

Front: Alpine Type S 4" Two-Way Coaxials

Rear: Alpine Type R 6.5" Two-Way Coaxials

Amplifer: Alpine Mono-Block 500W (Not Digital - Apparently they sound better though, but I have yet to experience this for myself)

Sub: Alpine 10" Type R

All in all, I had the EQ set to Bass (-4), Mid (-1), Treb (+1), and Fad Rear (+2 or 3 - depending on how loud i wanted to go)

I estimate I probably got about 100-110 dB out of it which was good enough for me... and apparently more than enough for my neighbours haha

All that cost me under $1000 CDN, and I'm sure if you wanted to go amp the speakers and swap for components you could pull another 10-20 dB out of em easy, but you'd need a better deck, and maybe upgrade to 1000W with a 12" Type R.

Overall, Crisp Mid-range, Beautiful Tone on the bass, and it wasn't overly loud, but loud enough to impress.

All my friends told me I should've gone louder, but I told them to go f*** themselves lol..

Keeping the thread alive.

Bought the car with an Alpine 7871 receiver, a pair of shiddy Digital Audio 6x9's in the parcel shelf, shiddy 6,.5" Digital Audio comps in the doors (holes cut into the upholstery/vinyl) and a pair of Kicker 4" Comps in the front dash, one of which had a damaged (cracked) cone.

I took out all the speakers an put in a pair of DLS 269 (6x9's) in the rear. I tried connecting my Coustic Monoblock yesterday with my sub (pair of Diamond Audio D3 8" in 1.2cf sealed enclosure) but the remote start wire on the 7871 is shorting. I guess I have to soon upgrade to a newer receiver.

I have a pair of Boston Acoustics SL60 (6.5" comps) for the doors, and I would like to get rid of my two Coustic amps (one mono, one 4channel) in lieu of a 5 Channel. I'm getting a good deal on an Orion Cobalt so I may take that, but for now its just the pair of 6x9's and the Alpine, which get quite loud actually!

I think once I get the car going I will be changing over the system. I plan to keep the DLS 269's in the parcel shelf since they are loud and clean, and a little rear fill helps with the engine and exhaust noise. A friend has a brand new old school PPI 5440 5-channel amp which I might take off his hands.

For the front, I'm definitely thinking of either a 5.25" or 6.5" component set, but not sure which 5.25" can give me a lot of midbass for little power (50watts each), so I may go with the 6.5". Not firm on what brand comps to get as yet but locally there are a lot of good SQ brands available, such as Focal, DLS, Boston Acoustics, Addictive Audio, Rainbow Audio, Diamond Audio, JLAudio, Polk Audio, Alpine, Infinity and even Morel, but I doubt I'll spend that much.

Anyone here who's into SQ big can tell me what brand of 5.25" component provides the biggest midbass on 50W power?

I'm thinking about getting a new head unit. The Alpine CDA-117 looks pretty nice, I like the looks and it seems to have a ton of features. As much as possible I like to keep the connections straight between the head unit and amps, so the more sound shaping I can do via the head unit the better. Here is the link from alpine:
