We used this stuff under the hood like he's showing in the video:

The final visible surface is aluminum, not black; their picture isn't so good.
It's cheaper than Dynamat and just as good.
It also goes under the carpet, down on the floor first.
Next we put some of this over the first layer:

Finally, we put the carpet over the two layers.
You do the door inside panels with the first stuff, and in our case, you can't hear the engine until you get over 85 mph (3.79 final drive).
Makes for a relaxing drive on those 10-12 hour trips.
Since you didn't have a carpet to begin with, I'll bet you really noticed an improvement; good job!
We bought some stock black carpet from a 'Big Lots' to make some throw rugs...similar to your idea.
