Ordering some shoes and pads now for braking...

On the back side of the old ones, there is a back plate that is rusted in two. (0,5mm thick?)

Is this needed, and do I need to order this plate also?

On the old ones 4 arms were installed, I assume this is only for making noise when the pads wear out so you change them in time.

Are this arms common or could I skip them?

Some googling does the trick before posting  :

"They are there for noise (squeeling).
They do not affect the stopping performance of your brakes.
They aren't necessary, I find the 'stop squeel' paste works just as well. Most aftermarket pads aren't designed to work with the shims anyways, so if you're upgrading I'd recommend not bothering with the shims.
