A good friend of mine gave me a new rebuilt rack and pinion for christmas. The temps got up into the 70's last week so I decided to replace the rack and pinion. Not a hard job to do. But when I pulled the lower mounting bolts for the brackets, I had lots of water drain out of the threaded holes. The bolts where corroded badly and had to be replaced. I also drilled drain holes in the spot welded body panels that are installed from the factory to mount the rack and pinion. The old rack was so worn in the center that adjusting the preload so the rack didn't rattle made it hard to turn the steering wheel when you got to the outer ends of the steering. Just an FYI on adding drain holes when you replace your rack and pinion.
